Some trucks waited over 8 hours to
be allowed to enter the chaotic paddock, the organisation was haphazard, the
rules extraordinary, the instructions incorrect, the driving standards below
par with crashes and spins galore, no programme or list of entrants, unpleasant
weather for much of the time causing one practice session to be abandoned and,
to add insult to injury, Richard (Pilkington) had entered an Alfa Romeo Monza
in the HGPCA race and had been left off the entry list. "Not so
serious" I hear you comment - well it caused no end of problems as the
scrutineer was unable to approve the car without the proper piece of paper
which meant that we were still in the paddock three hours after we should have
left. The HGPCA pre-1961 race managed an entry of 12 cars and had to be
amalgamated with the Formula Juniors - over 1000 miles travelling for two 20
minute mixed races and a practice session………………...

Nick Rossi, visiting from deepest Kazakhstan with his special
equipment, did a tribal sun dance on Saturday night which enabled Alfa Romeo
Monza drivers Richard Pilkington and Hubert Fabri to enjoy
more of their race on Sunday.
